The UK white paper Valuing People: A New Strategy for Learning Disability for the 21st Century was published on 20 March 2001. It is the first white paper on learning disability for thirty years and sets out an ambitious and challenging programme of action for improving services.

Valuing people now sets out the Government's strategy for people with learning disabilities for the next three years following consultation. It also responds to the main recommendations in Healthcare for All, the independent inquiry into access to healthcare for people with learning disabilities

In response to an invitation from Mr. John Moloney, Minister for Equality, Disability and Mental Health, the National Federation prepared a discussion paper “Vision Statement for Intellectual Disability in Ireland for the 21st Century”. The paper was submitted to the Minister’s office for his consideration in April 2009. The discussion paper reflects on what a new vision might look like, the principles which should underpin it, the issues to be addressed in it, and our views on the design attributes of a policy document and of a policy development process. VIF supports a variety of programmes across Ireland calling for varying
levels of funding. The social investment programme focuses primarily
on removing barriers that prevent people from participating fully in
society. Vodafone Ireland Foundation has established certain funding

effective as possible.

Volunteer Development Scotland (VDS) advances the boundaries of
volunteering, increasing accessibility, scope, understanding and value
to all involved. VDS plays a key role by informing and connecting
people. Central Registered Body for Scotland (CRBS) is an integral
service provided by Volunteer Development Scotland. CRBS acts for the
voluntary engaging sector seeking free disclosures in Scotland. It also
provides support, guidance and advice on a broad range of legal and
associated issues relevant to the voluntary sector.
