Supporting Citizenship through Individualised Supports

The National Federation of Voluntary Bodies in co-operation with the Centre for Disability, Law & Policy hosted a Conference entitled: “More Choice, More Control - Supporting Citizenship through Individualised Supports" on Thursday, 3rd November, 2011 in Clayton Hotel, Galway. The specific aim of the National Federation of Voluntary Bodies was to create space for useful discussion and exploration with key international speakers on how to make the change to individualised supports a reality.

The keynote speakers for the conference were:

  • Brian Salisbury, Director of Strategic Planning, Community Living British Columbia, Canada who was involved in the architecture and methods of making the Community Living British Columbia Model (CLBC)
  • Martin Routledge, Head of Operations of In Control, UK, previously of Putting People First, Department of Health, UK, was a founding member of In Control which has pioneered self directed support in the UK.
  • Pat Fratangelo Onondaga Community Living, Syracuse, USA, is well known as having a traditional service to one that is completely focused on supporting people in their lives.
