UN convention on disability rights passed by Dáil

(08 Mar 2018)

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities has been ratified by the Dáil.

A document will now be sent to the United Nations in New York, where it will be formally ratified.  Ireland is the last of the 27 European Union states to ratify the convention, which was adopted by the UN in 2006.

It protects equal treatment for all people with disabilities with respect to human rights and fundamental freedoms.
