It is expected that the Legal Capacity Bill will be released in May 2012.

In August 2011 the National Federation of Voluntary Bodies joined the coalition of interested organisation to seek progressive legal capacity legislation that is complaint with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The coalition have agreed a list of principles on which it is seeking that the next draft of the legislation is based. A plain English version the Principles for Capacity Legislation is now available to download.
